1. Dog License and Ordinances

Dog licenses must be obtained for all dogs over six months of age.
Licenses must be renewed each year, before January 31st.
Proof of rabies vaccination must be produced before the license will be issued.
Rabies vaccination must be current through November of the license year in order to comply with
New Jersey State Department of Health requirement that the expiration date of the rabies vaccination
expire no more than two months prior to the end of the licensing period. (January 31st).
LIBERTY TOWNSHIP RESIDENTS PLEASE NOTE:
Dogs (6 months and older) are to be licensed during the month of January each year. Fees are $8.00 for neutered/spayed and $11.00 for non-neutered/non-sprayed. A $5.00 late fee per month, per animal will be charged after January 31st.
Application forms can be found online or can be picked up at the Municipal Clerk's Office.
To license by mail, make your check payable to LIBERTY TOWNSHIP and enclose:
- Self-addressed stamped envelope
- Copy of the rabies certificate
- Proof of neutering/spaying

Please note that the Rabies certificate cannot expire before November 1st of the licensing year.
A free rabies clinic will be scheduled in November at the Township Garage. For additional information,
please contact the Municipal Building at 908-637-4579. Dog licenses may be obtained at the
Office of the Municipal Clerk, 349 Mt. Lake Road, Great Meadows, New Jersey during normal business
hours which are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. During the month of January
special evening hours will be posted.

Pursuant to the following ordinances of the Code of Liberty Township:
#49-13: Noise. No person shall keep, harbor or maintain any dog which habitually barks or cries at any time.
#49-13.1. Running at large. No person owning, keeping or harboring any dog shall suffer or permit it to run at large upon the public streets or in any public park or in any public building or in any other public place or upon any property other than that owned by the license owner or keeper of the dog within the township; provided, however, that this section shall not apply to any dog accompanied by a hunter or hunters during the hunting season or while any person may be training a hunting dog in the woodlands or open country. No person owning, keeping or harboring any dog shall suffer or permit it to be upon the public streets or in any of the public places of the township unless such dog is accompanied by a person over the age of twelve (12) years and is securely confined and controlled by an adequate leash not more than six (6) feet long.

2. Marriage Licenses and Domestic Partnership Certificates

Marriage licenses are obtained in the office of the Municipal Clerk/ Registrar of Vital Statistics located at the Municipal Building, 349 Mt. Lake Road, Great Meadows, New Jersey.
Applications are made in the municipality in which either party resides. Should neither not reside in New Jersey, the application is made in the municipality (Liberty Township) in which the marriage is to take place.
Applicants must call for an appointment: (908) 637.4579.
Applicants will be required to produce identification by presenting their driver's license, passport or state/federal I.D. along with proof of residency and social security card or number. A witness over the age of eighteen must accompany the applicants at time of application.
Applicants, who have been previously married, are requested to produce copies of their certified divorce papers, or death certificates, if applicable. There is a seventy-two hour waiting period before the issuance of the marriage licenses after application is made. The fee for the license is $28.00. After the marriage, certified copies can be obtained for a fee of $10.00 each.
