Independence First Aid Squad

The Independence First Aid Squad is a volunteer organization that serves the residents of Independence and Liberty Townships with emergency medical services.

In the fall of 1971 less than twelve people met at the Independence Township Municipal Building and decided to start a first aid squad. In the spring of 1972, the Independence First Aid Squad was incorporated.

They purchased their first ambulance from Basking Ridge First Aid Squad in July of 1972. The squad has been answering emergency calls for help ever since.

The squad building was started in the spring of 1972 and dedicated in April, 1975. The building was expanded in 1998.

Currently, the first aid squad has sixteen active members who are
New Jersey State Certified Emergency Medical Technicians
.

In 1999, they answered 323 emergency calls ranging from transportation to major life threatening incidents.

In 1998, the squad expanded and put an ambulance in the Liberty Township garage. In 1999, this ambulance responded to 116 calls in Liberty Township.

Throughout the year, the squad holds many fundraisers. Some of those include the Corned Beef Dinner, Longaberger Basket Tricky Tray, Chicken Bar-B-Que, Flea Market, and Santa visits. These fundraising events help to raise the funds that are necessary to keep the squad operating.

The squad is always looking for new members. If you are interested in joining the squad, please contact us at 908-637-4477 for additional information.
